Dexamethasone has a potent glucocorticoid activity as well as a potent anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties, However, at equipotent anti-inflammatory doses, dexamethasone is almost completely devoid of the sodium - retaining property of hydrocortisone.
Dexamethasone injection has a rapid onset. But short duration of action and is therefore suitable for the treatment of acute disorders responsive to glucocorticoid therapy.
